How Professional is your Local Garage?

This is a question asked by the team at Claytons MOT & Service Centre now a recognised employer by the Institute of the Motor Industry or IMI as they are more commonly known. This is the 1st award of its kind awarded to an Independent garage in the Leeds Bradford area and recognises investment in staff training and development. Not only this they boast they have the only IMI Accredited Light Vehicle Master Technician not currently employed by a main dealer franchise. James has completed over 30 training courses to gain his qualifications, these are then followed up by an assessment at Bosch training centre in Uxbridge to ensure he has the required knowledge for becoming a Bosch Master Technician, additionally to this he also holds a Level 3 Hybrid qualification for maintenance and repair on electric vehicles. Reaccreditation recently regained in November 2015, must then be followed up and further assessed every three years.  However, unlike plumbers and electricians, motor vehicle technicians, (mechanics) require no qualifications to work on your pride and joy, shocking but true, with no regulatory body all training and accreditation is undertaken on a voluntary basis.  Peter, Tracy and James Clayton the family team responsible for the business believe they have nothing to hide, they welcome mystery shops from their partners at Bosch Car Service and the DVSA (formerly VOSA) responsible for the MOT scheme.

Claytons MOT & Service Centre adhere to the Bosch Car Service Trading Standards approved code of practice, the code aims to bolster consumer protection and improve customer service standards, with this code and the IMI recognition Claytons believe they set the benchmark for others to follow.

The recognition award was presented on 27th November 2015, in attendance were Stuart Andrew MP, Councillor Andrew Carter and Michelle Barrett representing the IMI

Quotes Tracy Clayton – “As a family run company who constantly strive to maintain and improve the service we offer to our customers, we are extremely proud to be the first independent garage in our area to be awarded as an IMI Recognised Employer”
